SEC Baseball Tournament, Day 2


SEC player of the year Brett Rooker, blasted his 21st home run of the year in the bottom of the first, setting the stage for State.  Konnor Pilkington was lights out on the bump, tossing a five-hitter over eight innings.   It was the seventh time in tournament history that Georgia was shut out.


Kole Cottam’s solo shot, broke a 2-2 tie, propelling the Wildcats to victory.   The designated hitter finished the day 2-3 at the dish.   The Wildcats took advantage of sloppy defense by the Gamecocks, who committed four errors in the game.


LSU 10 –  MIZZU 3

LSU coach Paul Mainieri earned his 500th victory, as the Tigers tamed Missouri.   Cole Freeman enjoyed a monster day, going 4-4 with a three-run homer.   LSU is now 12-0 all-time versus Missouri.



The Gators jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind ace Alex Faedo, who tossed six solid innings, striking out seven.   He now has 305 strikeouts in his Gator career, moving him into third place in team history.   The Tigers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 4-4.   Christian Hicks drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eight, giving the Gators the go ahead run.   It was the 17th one-run victory on the season, the most in the country.
