Every team has a uniform and every uniform has a story. lets take a look at the jerseys the BIG 12 teams will be sporting this year.
This season Baylor will be wearing their normal yet extravagant green and gold nike pro combat jerseys. Art Briles being the coach that he is wanted to amp it up and throw and alternate uniform into the game day mix (picture above). Art Briles tweeted “LetsEat” and a picture of the jerseys via twitter. When Baylor Takes on Lamar at 7:30 at McLane Stadium on september 12th i know the whole house will be hungry.
Kansas State has one of the most iconic football jerseys of all time. When you see royal purple and white you know its the wildcats. They also have one of the greatest college football coaches of all time Bill Snyder, who was inducted into the college football hall of fame this year. K-STATE has some of the strongest tradition out of any school. The fan base is like a true family and every Saturday (or occasional Thursday) they all culminate in Bill Snyder Family Stadium for one common goal. A Wildcat Victory, and on September 5th they will play South Dakota at the Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Oklahoma is part of the new age of college football jerseys. They are an old team but they chose to go with nike pro combat jerseys. Their jerseys are simple but sharp and they pop. You know if OSU is playing because they have one of the most distinct college football helmets ever. The helmet is really nothing special, It is just extremely distinguishable and lets you know that the cowboys are playing. When they face up against Central Arkansas on September 12th at Boone Pickens Stadium Stillwater will be going crazy and hitting their paddles on the stands like never before.
TCU joined the BIG 12 in 2012 and they have been making a splash, since they joined they have been to the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl and the Peach Bowl. This year analysts say that they are on track for a run at a championship. They are Ranked #2 in the preseason polls right now and the highest ranked team in the BIG 12. Their new jerseys are unique and creative. They give off a feel of a wannabe Oregon but aren’t doing a bad job doing it. They are nike pro combat. On September 12th at Amon G. Carter Stadium against Stephen F. Austin the horned frogs will be ready to go at home show their new frog skin (jerseys) and go for a win.
Texas Tech is the only team in the BIG 12 conference that has under armor as their jersey and apparel sponsor. They have some average jerseys but there will be games where they break out ridiculous gear. Under armor likes to get creative and i can see them getting very creative with jerseys this year as they try to compete with nike. Texas Tech being the only team with under armor means that they are the exclusive team for them in the BIG 12. When they take on Sam Houston State on September 5th at Jones AT&T stadium under armor will have a jersey to show off to all of college football.
Kansas is the only team in the BIG 12 that is sponsored by adidas. Their colors are red, blue and white. They also use a lot of alternate jerseys that they like to reveal on gamedays and they are usually pretty flashy. Kansas hasn’t been good at football in quite a while but when they hit Memorial Stadium on September 5th against South Dakota State they hope to regain some authority in the BIG 12.
The University of Oklahoma has some of the most traditional and iconic jerseys of all time. The Oklahoma football jersey has been a staple in college football since the beginning of time. The colors of crimson and cream have been on the backs of Sooners football players since 1895. This season will be no different. since last year they have got some updates on their jerseys. it was nothing to dramatic but it added a little pizazz to the uniform that some people thought it needed. On September 5th at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium against Akron boomer sooner will be playing louder than ever before.
All you need to see is that burnt orange on any given Saturday fall afternoon and you know that Texas is playing. Texas has one of the most memorable and recognizable jerseys in college football, almost everyone knows that burnt orange and that big Texas longhorn logo. They are sponsored by nike and have been a poster child for nike football gear for years. They are the most wealthy team in the BIG 12 and one of the most wealthy college teams in the country. Texas hasn’t been as productive as they have in the past but this season when they hit Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on September 12th against Rice they hope to have a little bit more luck and talent.
West Virginia joined the BIG 12 in 2012, they were previously in the Big East. They have done ok in the BIG 12. They have been to the Pinstripe Bowl and they have been to the Liberty bowl since they have joined. West Virginia really likes to sharpen their number more than any other team and i think it gives their jerseys a very defined unique look and makes them standout more than a lot of other teams. On September 5th vs. Georgia Southern at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium the Mountaineers will look for their first win and hopefully a successful season.
Iowa State has a very classic jersey. They don’t switch it up all that much and it makes sense not to because the tradition runs so deep. They sport three different jerseys that are all new age yet retro at the same time. Football is a big deal in Ames, Iowa and at Jack Trice Stadium on September 5th against UNI the cyclones student section will definitely be on the radar.
