With Spring Football wrapped up throughout the country, we are preparing our first bowl projections for next season. Next Monday, we’ll have projections that include which teams are going to which game. For now, here’s the list of teams from the Big Ten Conference, listed alphabetically, that we think will be bowl-eligible in 2015-2016.
- Michigan State
- Ohio State
- Penn State
A few notes:
Look into my Is: Our feeling is that one of the I-teams from the Big Ten, Indiana, Illinois or Iowa, is going to stun someone and play in a New Year’s Day bowl game.
Illinois made it to a bowl game last season, With the now-experienced and always talented Wes Lunt in place as the starting quarterback, the Illini should score a lot of points. Unfortunately, the Illinois defense ranked 109th in points allowed last season. If the defense can improve, the Illini could have an outstanding 2015.
We have been high on the Hoosiers for the last few years, but they have not been able to get to six wins. Each season, upset losses have kept the Hoosiers in Bloomington during the holidays. Last year the Hoosier passing game, which has typically ranked around the top of the Big Ten, was non-existent after starter Nate Sudfeld was injured. He is back and if he stays healthy, the Hoosiers will get to at a bowl.
Finally, there’ s Iowa. For the last five years, it seems that, the Hawkeyes have entered the season with high-flying expectations, only to be upset during non-conference play. This year, the expectations are muted and Iowa has a non-conference schedule that the Hawkeyes could conquer. They miss Ohio State and Michigan State from the East Division, leaving Iowa fans to wonder if a 10-win season is possible.
