Bowl Projections October 13, 2014 (First projections of the season)

THE FUTURE OF THE BOWL GAME POSTERFlorida State, Baylor, Marshall, Notre Dame, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are the last undefeated teams remaining and all became bowl eligible Saturday.  Now that the first teams are bowl eligible, we’ll provide bowl projections from experts across the web starting today and on each Monday morning for the rest of the season.  We’ll also include notes and observations, plus a pick of our own that may seem crazy.  We’ll provide the rationale behind it, explain how it can happen, and hopefully we’ll surprise you.  Each week, we’ll list our prior picks, and after the bowls are over, we’ll review our projections.  So onto the expert picks, our selection, notes and more.

It is the midway point of the season, but there is variety in the expert’s picks.   One spot where there is consensus, is that all three believe the Big 10 representative in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando will be Ohio State, facing either Alabama or Auburn.  We also like of the projected selections for the Sugar and Rose Bowl, the first-round games in the College Football Playoff

Our Bowl Prediction:

If you weren’t a subscriber last season, or weren’t a fan of ours on Facebook, you may not have seen our picks from last year, or know how we go about this.  First, we look for a team that we think is going to a certain bowl and that none of the experts has projected into the bowl we choose.  This can limit our choices, particularly now when there is not a lot of consensus as to which team is going to which bowl, and right now, the experts have a lot of variety.  We then select who we project as their opponent, and our first bowl projection is for a classic being played for the 56th time this December.

AutoZone Liberty Bowl

LSU vs. West Virginia

We are selecting LSU for this game due in large part to a brutal schedule that will include six games against nationally-ranked teams.  We’re not sure how many of those LSU will win, but the Tigers have two losses currently and still have games against Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas A&M.   Our feeling is that the Tigers are a young team that should improve as the season goes on.  In this game, they’ll finish the season with a game against West Virginia and its high-octane offense.
