Spring Training Tour – Giants see Reds

It was 80 degrees and sunny in Goodyear, Arizona for day two of my Spring Training Tour.  The ballpark in Goodyear is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Phoenix, and is the home of both teams from the Buckeye State, the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds.  It seats just over 10,000 fans and is one of my favorite stadiums in the Cactus League.  It features Skyline Chili, a staple in Ohio and a specialty of the house at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark.

The Reds offer an opportunity to meet a former Reds player in the stadium concourse. Yesterday, it was George Foster, a member of The Big Red Machine that won back-to-back World Series in the 1970’s.

Fans can also meet the visitors, in this case San Francisco’s Hunter Pence.

The stadium offers room to play and many activities for kids.

The Reds jumped out to a 3-0 lead, before the Giants came back with six straight.  The Reds closed the gap to 6-5, but the Giants scored once in each the eighth and ninth for a 8-5 win.
