Bowl Projections – Compiled from the web, November 12, 2012

Every week we gather bowl projections from several sources and post them for your review and comment.  We also make a prediction on one bowl game that may seem unlikely on the surface. We explain how it could happen, and why it is not too far of a stretch. A few weeks ago, I predicted a Rose Bowl matchup of Wisconsin versus Notre Dame and was basically called crazy by readers and a handful of representatives of other bowl games. Today, three of four experts are calling for Notre Dame to play in Pasadena.

Here are the expert bowl projections.  With only two weeks left in the regular season, there are only two games the experts are in complete agreement on. There are several others where all four agree on one team, but the opponents vary.

Our bowl prediction  –  An ALL SEC NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Significant challenges still face Kansas State, Oregon and Notre Dame. In addition to traveling to Baylor, the Wildcats host a Texas team that has been playing better. The Ducks must play Stanford and Oregon State, both ranked in the top-15, before facing either USC or UCLA in the Pac-12 Championship Game. To get to the National Championship Game, they will likely need to win all three games. The Fighting Irish must travel to California play USC the last week of the season. Last season, the Irish were defeated at home by the Trojans.

For this prediction to hold true, each of the teams that have made it this far without being defeated must lose a game the last few weeks of the season.

Alabama and Georgia, Nos. 4 and 5, would need to continue to win. Florida, sitting with one loss and facing No. 8 Florida State the last game of the season, would need to win out and avoid the SEC Championship Game. So Florida and the SEC Champion would move into the two spots behind teams currently undefeated. But if each of those teams lose the last few weeks of the season, then Florida could face the SEC Champion in the BCS National Championship Game. Not that likely, but it is definitely possible.                  — Dave
