There are several undefeated college football teams remaining this season, but only a handful of college football teams have the chance to earn their sixth victory this Saturday and become bowl eligible. Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Illinois, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Houston all can become bowl eligible with a victory Saturday.
Georgia Tech has the best chance to be the first team to be bowl eligible this year. The Yellow Jackets play at noon, while no other team with five wins plays until 2:30 p.m. Of the teams playing for their sixth victory, only LSU faces an opponent rated in the top 25.
Besides the teams playing for bowl eligibility, there are several other games this weekend that will have an impact on the bowl season and bragging rights. It’s a huge weekend in the Big XII when Oklahoma takes on Texas in the Red River Rivalry, undefeated Kansas State takes on Missouri, Texas A&M faces Texas Tech and Iowa State travels to Baylor. In the SEC, Arkansas hosts Auburn, and Georgia visits Tennessee. In the Big Ten, Nebraska holds the first Big Ten home game in Lincoln as Ohio State comes to town, and Iowa travels to Penn State. Other big games include Arizona State at Utah, Miami at Virginia Tech and Air Force at Notre Dame.
After this weekend, there might be a little more clarity as to which teams are heading to the post-season. Starting next Monday, we’ll start posting the bowl projections from a variety of sources.
